diskurso.ph is a debate forum for Filipino students. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
Who we are
diskurso.ph ("we", "the site") is operated from the Philippines and is reachable at our contact page. We are the data controller for the information described here.
What we collect
| Data | Why we hold it | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Identifies your account and lets you sign back in | You, or your Google account |
| Display name and username | Shown on every argument you post, so debates are attributable | You, during setup |
| Profile photo | Shown beside your arguments | Your Google account, if you sign in with Google |
| Arguments, replies, stances and likes | They are the content of the site | You, as you use it |
| Interests you select | Decides which debates your feed opens on | You, during setup or in your profile |
| Reports you file | Lets moderators act on rule-breaking | You, when you report an argument |
We do not ask for your real address, phone number, school records, or payment details, and we have no reason to.
What is public
Anyone can read this site without an account. That means your display name, username, profile photo, arguments, replies, likes received and interests are public and visible to people who are not logged in, and can be indexed by search engines.
Your email address is never shown publicly. Do not put anything in an argument that you would not want a stranger, a classmate or a teacher to read.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use three categories:
- Essential. Firebase Authentication stores a sign-in token in your browser so you stay logged in. Without it the site cannot tell who you are. These cannot be switched off while you are signed in.
- Preferences. Your chosen theme (light or dark) is kept in your browser's local storage. It never leaves your device.
- Advertising. Described in the next section.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show advertisements on this site.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
- More detail is in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before any advertising or analytics cookies are set. You can change your answer at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Services we rely on
The site runs on Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage and Hosting). Your account data and the arguments you post are stored on Google's infrastructure and are subject to Firebase's privacy terms. If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your email address, display name and profile photo — nothing else.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the service providers named on this page.
How long we keep it
Your account and content stay until you ask us to remove them. When you delete an argument the text is erased but an empty slot remains in the thread, so replies that answered it keep their context. Reports you file are deleted once a moderator has dealt with them.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you what data we hold about you;
- correct your display name, bio or interests (you can do this yourself in your profile);
- delete your account and the arguments attached to it;
- stop processing your data.
Write to us via the contact page. We aim to reply within 30 days. Your username cannot be changed after setup, because it is how other debaters cite you.
Age
This site is intended for students aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
Sign-in is handled by Google and we never see your password. Access to the database is restricted by server-side security rules. No system is perfect, so please do not post sensitive personal information anywhere on the site.
Changes
If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be announced on the site.
